Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) utilizes body and position leverage, allowing a smaller person to defend themselves from a stronger, larger opponent. The Brazilian Gracie family, combined traditional Japanese judo and jiu jitsu with an emphasis on techniques for slight body frames. It contains elements of stand-up fighting, but is known for its ground-fighting and is widely considered the most effective self defense martial art.
BJJ is all about gaining superior positioning, to apply chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations. In addition to being an effective self defense martial art, it is also a sport with competitions for adults and children around the world. BJJ has had a huge influence in the development of mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions, and has become a critical skill for every MMA fighter.
